Rotary Report
WOW what a start to 2024 for the Rotary Club of Nathalia. The New Year’s Eve Carnival Spinning Wheel was one of the club’s most successful spinning wheels we’ve had in quite a long time. We did over 67 spins for the night which is a great effort by Ross Smith who was on the truck for every one of the 67 spins. We would like to thank the Rotary Club of Numurkah for their effort on the night selling tickets, if it wasn’t for them we would not be able to conduct the spinning wheel on the night. We would also like to thank Limo’s Mitre 10 for the use of the truck on the night, also a huge thank you to the following businesses for the prizes; RG and A Smith Electrical, Causal Step, Nathalia Hair & Beauty, Nathalia Post Office, Limo’s Mitre 10 and Nathalia Pharmacy, without these businesses support we would not be able to conduct the spinning wheel, thanks again.
Before Christmas the club handed out 4 scholarships. To St Mary of the Angels the Pat Kelly Memorial Award, to the Nathalia Secondary College the Dan Kennedy Memorial Award and two new scholarships, one with St Francis Primary School and one with Nathalia Primary School which is a new introduction.
The money that the club donates goes towards the student’s education for the next year. The Rotary Club would like to congratulate the following students; Lauren Cobbledick from St Mary of the Angels, Ashia Guthrie from Nathalia Primary School and Grace Leslie from St Francis Primary School. We would like to wish them all the best for the future.
At the end of last year, the Ray Butler Debate Shield was presented to St Mary of the Angels as the winners of the annual debate between them and the Nathalia Secondary College.
The next project on the horizon is the annual Show and Shine on Sunday the 17th of March 2024. We would like to announce Nathalia IGA as the naming right sponsor for the Show and Shine, we thank them for their ongoing support.
A couple weeks later it will be Easter and yes, that means the Annual Easter Bush Bash Spinning Wheel will take place at the annual Easter Saturday Market.
As you can see we have a very busy start to 2024. The Rotary Club of Nathalia at the moment only have 7 current members. We are looking for members to light the load on some of the current members. At this stage if we don’t get any new members to the Rotary Club, we might have to scale back some of the projects such as Spinning Wheels and the Show and Shine which will be very disappointing for the Nathalia community. All the money raised from these events goes back into the community.
If you are interested in potentially joining, please let Anthony Oliver know.
